  • Arsenal v Sunderland
  • A somewhat dispirited Arsenal will have returned from Porto but their win over Liverpool last time out in the league will still be fresh in their minds.

Unfortunately for Sunderland there are no wins that are still fresh in their minds and there still won’t be after this.

    SoccerNews prediction: 2-0

  • Everton v Manchester United
  • A few weeks ago Everton would have been dreading this game but they have transformed their season. They are a tough nut to crack at Goodison Park and even without the injured Fellaini they will still be hard to beat.

Louis Saha will be hoping that United defend like they did in the first half in Milan but on the whole, United are looking good. They are entering the time of the season where they normally hit top form and they don’t look too far from it right now. I think Sir Alex will be satisfied with a point here.

    SoccerNews prediction: 1-1

  • Portsmouth v Stoke
  • It looks as though Pompey’s players will unexpectedly find themselves in the shop window again as FIFA seems likely to allow the club to sell some players in order to reduce their debts. The whole club is in a mess and whilst I don’t want to see any club go out of business, it just seems so wrong that the game is going to bend over backwards to help a club that was so badly mismanaged at the potential cost to clubs who have been more prudent and sensible.

Having said that, Pompey don’t look to have too many players that any other club would want at the moment! They are eight points adrift of safety whilst their opponents sit comfortably in mid-table.

Stoke continue to impress and I expect them to have enough to at least take a point off the bottom club.

    SoccerNews prediction: 0-0

  • West Ham v Hull
  • This is a bit of a six-pointer at Upton Park as Hull visit West Ham. Both teams are level on points just one point above the relegation places. Both sides are showing signs that they might just have enough to avoid going down and their form is OK.

Defeat for either side in this one would be a bitter pill to swallow and I think it might be Phil Brown who has to deal with it.

    SoccerNews prediction: 1-0

  • Wolves v Chelsea
  • Fifth from bottom plays top. The result should be a formality and to be honest, it probably is.

Wolves had a good win over Tottenham last time out but they are finding wins pretty hard to come by. Chelsea’s last league game saw them lose at Everton. It is pretty unlikely that Wolves will win two in a row or Chelsea will lose two in a row.

    SoccerNews prediction: 0-2

    Sunday 21st February

  • Aston Villa v Burnley
  • Villa have slipped to seventh although they do have a game in hand on the two teams above them. They have drawn three games in a row and their season is definitely delicately poised at this time. They could collapse like they did last season or they could kick-on and have their best season in years. In order to do the latter, they need to win this one.

Burnley are second from bottom and they are starting to look like real relegation fodder. Away from home they have picked up just one point and conceded thirty-eight goals in their thirteen games. I can’t see them improving on that record in this one.

    SoccerNews prediction: 2-0

  • Blackburn v Bolton
  • A bit of a local derby here with the added spice of Sam Allardyce once again coming up against his old club.

That, unfortunately, is where the excitement around this game ends. Bolton need the points in their battle to stave off relegation whilst Blackburn look pretty comfortable in mid-table.

Bolton were terrible at Wigan in midweek and Blackburn hardly set the pulses racing with their style of football either. Whatever happens, this one won’t be a thriller for the neutral.

    SoccerNews prediction: 1-0

  • Fulham v Birmingham
  • Two of the clubs in the Premier League who are feeling pretty pleased with themselves and happy with life in general.

Fulham continued their European journey with a great win over Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek and they sit very comfortably in tenth place in the league. Roy Hodgson has done and is doing a wonderful job at the club.

Remarkably, Birmingham sit two places and three points higher than Fulham. They are still on the most incredible run that has seen them lose just once in seventeen games.

Neither side are free-scoring so the game might not be a thriller, but both sides will play it the right way and a good game of football should be produced.

    SoccerNews prediction: 1-1

  • Manchester City v Liverpool
  • A fourth place six-pointer at the City of Manchester Stadium sees Liverpool as the visitors.

City currently hold fourth place by one point from Liverpool and they have played a game less. A win for City here would open up a decent gap for them.

Having said that, wins are a difficult thing for City to achieve at the moment having drawn twice with Stoke and lost to their city rivals in their last four games. In the middle of that run was a less than emphatic 2-0 win over Bolton.

Liverpool have forced their way back into the race for Champions League qualification, but defeat at Arsenal and a laboured win in the Europa League show that they are still not the team they probably should be.

    SoccerNews prediction: 1-1

  • Wigan v Tottenham
  • How Roberto Martinez must have been dreading this game. The 9-1 defeat his side suffered at Tottenham earlier in the season was humiliating to say the least. He might be excited about the prospect of getting revenge, but if the absolutely diabolical game his side played against Bolton in the week is anything to go by, then they will not be getting anything like revenge here.

Tottenham are showing some signs of their famous old inconsistency as they contrive to throw away fourth place. They are still in with a shout if they can rediscover early season form and I expect them to build some confidence in this one.

    SoccerNews prediction: 0-2
