Premier League Predictions – Stoke and West Brom to cause shocks? I don’t think so

Three out of ten last week. I’m not going to defend myself, I’m just going to keep on trying!

Saturday 15th November 2008

  • Arsenal v Aston Villa
  • Every week Arsenal let me down! If I predict they’re going to win they lose or draw. Then last week I tipped them to lose to Manchester United and they go and win. They are so unpredictable.

Aston Villa were looking really good and looking as though they might be able to launch an assault on the top four, but two defeats on the trot has restored the normal order of things.

Arsenal to win this one. (Sorry Arsenal fans!)

SoccerNews prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Aston Villa

  • Blackburn v Sunderland
  • Blackburn aren’t very good really but Sunderland are worse. The teams managed by two of the most tigerish midfield players there have ever been, Paul Ince and Roy Keane, do not really play in their manager’s image.

Blackburn can play some decent stuff but find it difficult to score. Sunderland can play some less decent stuff but also find it difficult to score.

    SoccerNews prediction: Blackburn 1-0 Sunderland

  • Bolton v Liverpool
  • Bolton had a fine win against Hull last week to follow on from their fine win against Manchester City. They now find themselves at the dizzy heights of eleventh in the table.

Liverpool will be smarting from their Carling Cup drubbing at Tottenham and will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of the table.

I think Liverpool will have more than enough to win this one.

    SoccerNews prediction: Bolton 0-2 Liverpool

  • Fulham v Tottenham
  • Fulham scraped a victory against Newcastle last week but their second half performance will have worried Roy Hodgson as they were totally overrun by Joe Kinnear’s strugglers.

Tottenham can’t put a foot wrong under Harry but I expect them to drop two points here as Fulham may just snatch a draw in this London derby.

    SoccerNews prediction: Fulham 1-1 Tottenham

  • Manchester United v Stoke
  • Surely this is one game that I can’t get wrong isn’t it? Manchester United may have lost at Arsenal and only drawn at Celtic but at times in those games they played mesmerising football. For any team to have twenty attempts on goal against Arsenal at the Emirates is incredible.

Stoke will play in their usual way and Ferdinand and Vidic will need to be on their game.

    Easy home win.

SoccerNews prediction: Manchester United 3-0 Stoke

  • Newcastle v Wigan
  • Newcastle are a much better bet than they were just a few weeks ago. They’re still not brilliant but at least they are showing some fight and some character.

Wigan were humbled in their 3-0 defeat to Arsenal youth team the other night and weren’t impressive in their draw with Stoke last week.

It’s as good a chance as any for Newcastle to put some points on the board.

    SoccerNews prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Wigan

  • West Brom v Chelsea
  • Another certainty here surely? West Brom, nice football, good to watch, concede goals, don’t score goals. Chelsea, nice football, good to watch, don’t concede goals, score lots of goals.

    It’s a ‘no brainer!’

SoccerNews prediction: West Brom 0-2 Chelsea

  • West Ham v Portsmouth
  • West Ham are really struggling at the moment and I’ve even seen rumours that Gianfranco Zola isn’t secure in his job. That is absolutely ludicrous but he does need to find a result from somewhere.

Tony Adams got his first win as manager of Portsmouth last week but to be fair, they were not very good at Sunderland.

I fancy this one will be close.

SoccerNews prediction: West Ham 1-1 Portsmouth

    Sunday 16th November 2008

  • Everton v Middlesbrough
  • Everton are scraping victories and are heading back to where we all thought they would be, in the top five or six.

Middlesbrough go from being awful to being brilliant from week to week. They are coming off a fine win at Aston Villa and Everton are coming off three straight wins.

    Could be a good one.

    SoccerNews prediction: Everton 1-0 Middlesbrough

  • Hull v Manchester City
  • Hull have been brilliant so far but a defeat at home to Bolton was not what they wanted after defeats to Chelsea and Manchester United. They need to get something from this game to prove that the bubble hasn’t burst.

Manchester City have been sliding and if Mark Hughes wants to be the man who gets the unlimited money to spend in January, he needs to start picking up points.

SoccerNews prediction: Hull 0-2 Manchester City
