Portugal had no significant difficulties on the Isle of Malta on Saturday, beating their opponents 0-4 in their first World Cup qualifier.

It did take until the 38th minute for Portugal to open the score, with some help from the home team as Said put the ball past his own goalkeeper.

Hugo Almeida doubled the lead just after the hour mark and Simao made it 0-3 in the 71st minute.

The fourth and final goal came from Nani in the 78th minute, helping Portugal to a comfortable victory.

Portugal are favorites in Group 1, especially with main rivals Sweden and Denmark both dropping points in their openers.
