Real release documents to Calderon corruption probe

Real Madrid were ordered to release information Wednesday to a Spanish judge probing allegations of rigged voting at the club’s general assembly last December.

“A legal expert today appeared at the offices of the stadium to request complementary information regarding the proceedings taking place at the Court of First Instance number 32 in Madrid, and that information is currently being provided,” Real Madrid said in a statement.

“The club has offered the full cooperation of Real Madrid in providing all the information requested by the judge,” they added in a statement.

Public radio RNE said five police officers accompanied the legal official, who removed accounting books from the years that Ramon Calderon was president of the Spanish giants.

Calderon stepped down in January after sports daily Marca reported that he rigged voting at the club’s annual general assembly in December, which approved its financial accounts, by allowing phoney club members to cast ballots.

He came to power in July 2006 for a four-year term.

Earlier this month a judge placed 14 people, including Calderon, under judicial investigation over the general assembly.

Calderon was questioned by the presiding judge in the case on May 20.

The crimes of corruption and fraud of which the 14 are suspected carry prison terms of between six months and four years under Spanish law.
