Harry Redknapp was delighted with his Tottenham side after they hammered Hearts 5-0 in Thursday’s Europa League play-off at Tynecastle.

Spurs scored three goals during the first half in Edinburgh, running out comfortable winners in the first leg and all but securing their place in the group stage.

After the match, Redknapp expressed his satisfaction at the comprehensive nature of the performance.

“I couldn’t have asked for more, it was excellent,” Redknapp told ITV.

“I expected a tough game tonight – it’s an intimidating place to come. But we started the game superbly and moved the ball around so well in the first half.”

“That was as good as I’ve seen us play.”

Tottenham will now have the option of resting players for the return fixture at White Hart Lane next Thursday, with Redknapp intending to allow some fringe players a further taste of first-team action.

“Jake Livermore did well tonight and Andros Townsend also did well when he came on,” Redknapp said.

“The result tonight gives us some more chance to play some of the younger players in the next leg.”

Speculation continues about the possibility of Luka Modric leaving Spurs for Chelsea, while the north London club have been linked with Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra as well as a loan move for Emmanuel Adebayor.

But Redknapp denied knowledge of any developments in the transfer market.

“I don’t know if there’s been any movement, the chairman deals with that,” Redknapp said.

“If anything is going to happen, he will ring and tell me. We’ll just wait and see.”
