Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has undergone successful heart surgery to unblock coronary arteries.

A statement from the Premier League club read: “The Club can report that earlier today Harry successfully had two stents inserted to unblock coronary arteries.”

“He (Redknapp) is in high spirits after the operation and should be discharged in the next 48 hours.”

Redknapp will miss Thursday’s Europa League game with Rubin Kazan, with assistant manager Kevin Bond taking charge of the team in Russia.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said he expected Redknapp would want to be back in the dug-out for Sunday’s trip to Fulham, but was cautious about rushing the manager back to duty.

“We are delighted the operation went so smoothly and successfully,” Levy said. “Knowing Harry he will want to rush back, but it’s important that he only does so when he has recovered properly.”

Redknapp revealed 18 months ago that he was taking heart pills on medical advice.
