Review of La Liga moves on transfer deadline day

Yesterday I reviewed some of the moves which took place on transfer deadline day in Italy’s Serie A and today is the turn of Spain’s La Liga.

Like Italy, it was a rather quiet day for moves in Spain. However there were some deadline day moves.

Real Madrid

It was all about exits on transfer deadline day at Real. Out of favour midfielder Pedro Leon left the club for former-club Getafe on a season-long loan deal, with a view to a permanent deal.

The 24 year-old winger made a name for himself with Real’s city rivals then moved to Real last summer for a fee in the region of £9million.

The other player leaving the Bernabeu was out of favour winger Royston Drenthe. The 24 year-old has also gone out on a season-long loan, he has joined Premier League Everton. Drenthe had spent a loan spell at Hercules last season and is surplus to requirements at Real.  Drenthe’s contract with Real Madrid expires next summer, so he is unlikely to return to the Spanish capital.

Atletico Madrid

Atletico secured the season-long loan signing of Wolfsburg playmaker Diego. The Brazilian is highly talented but has struggled to make an impact in the Bundesliga after a big money move from Serie A and Juventus.

Meanwhile the club sold Diego’s compatriot Elias to Sporting Lisbon for £7.8million. The midfielder had fallen out of favour with new Atletico boss Gregorio Manzano, despite impressing last season after arriving from Corinthians last December.

As mentioned in yesterdays article striker Diego Forlan has left Atletico to join Italian giants Inter for £5million. The 32 year-old has signed a two year contract at the Giuseppe Meazza. Atletico had already secured a deal for a replacement for Forlan with the big money signing of Falcao from FC Porto.

Valencia

Los Ches managed to sign former-Espanyol defender Victor Ruiz from Italian club Napoli for an undisclosed fee. Ruiz was part of Spain’s triumphant under-21 side at this years European Championships. Ruiz never really settled in Italy after a big money January move.

Meanwhile former-Valencia winger Vicente has joined English Championship side Brighton. The 30 year-old’s contract expired at Los Ches this summer and he was a free agent.

Real Zaragoza

Real Zaragoza have strengthened their attack with the addition of Portuguese striker Helder Postiga from Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth in region of £1million. The 29 year-old has previously had spells in England with Tottenham and also in his home country with perennial champions FC Porto.

Postiga is an experienced Portuguese international but he has struggled to regain the consistent form of his early career.

Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Alexander Hleb joined German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on a season-long loan deal. The 30 year-old has spent virtually the whole of the last two years out on-loan. He spent time on-loan at Birmingham last season.

Hleb is unlikely to play for the Catalans again with his Barcelona contract set to expire next summer. The Belarus international is currently recovering from a knee injury.

Who will be the best deadline day signing in La Liga?

Yeah Sam and he seems to cause controversy wherever he goes as well. He does have undoubted talent though. Maybe La Liga will be the perfect league for Diego to flourish.

Will be interesting to see how Diego goes in the La Liga. he’s definitely talented but his form hasn’t been the best in recent times
