Roma join Vertonghen race

Roma have been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen, according to the Mirror.

The Belgium international is likely to move on in the summer in search for Champions League football, after just two seasons at White Hart Lane.

Barcelona and Zenit St Petersburg are also interested in signing the Belgium international, and Roma have joined the race after securing their place among Europe’s elite next season.

Rudi Garcia’s men won an eighth successive league match at the weekend to secure a top-two finish in the Italian top flight, though they are unlikely to catch leaders Juventus, who sit eight points ahead of them with four games to play – one of which sees the top two meet at the Stadio Olimpico on May 9th.

Meanwhile Tottenham, who travel to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon, look certain to finish in a Europa League qualification position at best as they sit seven points behind fourth place Arsenal with just three games to play.
