Napoli defender Fabiano Santacroce insists he is happy at the club and would like to stay, despite being linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid in recent weeks.

Santacroce, who joined Napoli from Brescia last January, has impressed in the Serie A this season.

“I have a contract with Napoli and I am happy to stay here,” he told Sky Sport Italy. “I’m clearly flattered by the interest of big clubs, but I firmly believe in this project and I want to see it out.”

He continued: “The championship is very difficult this season, as there are several strong sides.

“We have a wonderful group and I have a special relationship with [Marek] Hamsik, who is like a brother to me.

“The Champions League? Of course, we think about it, but we need to keep our feet on the ground.

“Nonetheless, the San Paolo crowd is simply amazing and anything is possible. I dream of achieving great things with the Azzurri and possibly playing in the Champions League final sooner or later.”
