Sheffield United lead Ben Davies race

According to multiple sources, Liverpool are willing to let Ben Davies leave on loan for the upcoming season, and Sheffield United are leading the race at the moment ahead of Celtic and Bournemouth.

Liverpool signed the 25-year-old centre-back from Preston North End in January for a reported fee of around £1.5m along with the loan acquisition of Ozan Kabak from Schalke, following the injury to Joel Matip which had the Cameroonian join Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez on the sidelines for the rest of the 2020-21 season. The crisis caused the Merseysiders to drop significantly down the Premier League table in the period that followed, and only a sudden burst of good form at the very end of the campaign saw them secure a Champions League spot.

However, Davies still hasn’t played a single competitive minute for Jurgen Klopp’s team, with Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams establishing themselves as the preferred pair in the heart of defence at the time. Further more, Liverpool signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig earlier this summer, and with Van Dijk, Gomez and Matip all back in action, there is no place for Davies in the squad going forward.

Sheffield have already had a bid for Davies rejected, with Liverpool refusing to allow an option to buy to be included in the deal.
