Should Andre Villas-Boas fear for his Chelsea future?

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is under-pressure after consecutive home Premier League defeats.

The Portuguese boss has revealed that he is not worried about his future at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich not known for his patience.

Confident

Villas-Boas doesn’t seem to be worried about getting the axe though. The former-Porto boss told press: “It’s not a question of the owner having patience. We have set out to build something new at this club and the club is committed to taking what we’re building to the future.

“The owner didn’t pay 15 million euros to get me out of Porto to pay me another fortune to get out. Our commitment is towards the club and what we are doing in the future.”

The man himself seems confident that he is in the job for the long run and that their Russian owner Abramovich will give him enough time to build a successful team.

Impatient

As most football fans know Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has an itchy trigger finger when it comes to firing bosses. He is not the most patient owner/chairman in the Premier League. Abramovich is famous for going through managers like hot dinners.

The Russian is desperate for his team to be successful again after losing the league title to Manchester United last season. And Abramovich still craves success in the Champions League. It’s the Russian’s dream to win Europe’s elite competition and it seems that every manager who fails ends up losing his job.

Young

Despite being a highly-rated young coach Andre Villas-Boas is still a rookie boss. He did a fantastic job at Porto last season and showed his ability. However at just 34 years of age he is still learning the game and he has only had 12 games in the English top flight.

Villas-Boas has so much potential as a boss and will become a great head coach in the future. He is already a good manager and will mature with experience.

Time

I have been impressed with how Andre Villas-Boas has handled himself as Chelsea boss. He is obviously a guy who knows what he wants and has a strong personality. Given time I believe that the Portuguese boss will be a success at Chelsea.

Chelsea have not had any continuity for years and that’s meant that the team hasn’t been able to gel into a winning, successful unit.

Aging

The Chelsea job was always going to be a tough one with a lot of Chelsea’s players aging and powers on the wane. The likes of Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and John Terry are all in thirties and are no longer the forces they have been in recent years.

It’s only natural that players will start to slow down towards the twilight of their careers. What Chelsea haven’t been able to do is find replacements for their former key players. Chelsea signed Fernando Torres supposedly as a replacement for Drogba and as we all know Torres has struggled.

I think David Luiz was probably brought in as a long-term replacement for Terry but the Brazilian defender just doesn’t want to defend. I think it’s impossible to replace these players like for like and it’s going to take time for replacements to bed in at the club.

Style

Andre Villas-Boas wants his side to play attractive attacking football. However Chelsea have never based their success on that sort of style of play. The Blues gained success by building a team on a solid defensive footing.

Villas-Boas has tried to change the mentality of the Chelsea players but its came at the cost of results. Villas-Boas needs to find a middle ground between the two styles. I believe the Portuguese boss is capable of doing that.

Crazy

It’s crazy to be talking about Villas-Boas getting the sack after just 12 games of the Premier League season. However its the nature of the Premier League that owners and fans seem to expect instant success.

I just hope that Andre Villas-Boas is given the time by Abramovich to prove that he is good enough. If the Blues do give him that time I firmly believe that Chelsea will start to flourish.

Should Andre Villas-Boas be given time at Chelsea?
