Sir Bobby confident United will win the title

Sir Bobby Robson remains confident that Manchester United will win the Premier League title this season.

Robson does not believe Liverpool, who managed to beat United 4-1 at Old Trafford yesterday, will win the title.

“The first thing to say is that when May comes around, I think this 4-1 scoreline will be a blip in the history books,” Sir Bobby wrote in his column in the Mail on Sunday.

“But I do not think it will alter the destination of where the league title is going. United simply have too much class and experience to allow one bad day at the office to run into several weeks of poor form.

“I expect them to pick up straight away, probably starting with Fulham next weekend. If some of their star names are feeling jaded, Alex [Ferguson] can rest them.”

He added: “I do not think Benitez will win the league this season, but I can see him achieving it at some time at Anfield.

“I hope people do not think that if he falls short this season, he is incapable of winning it.

“I believe that, if he signs a long-term contract, he has the ability to be a proper rival for Alex. . .and that can only be good for the game.”
