Some truly unexpected news are arriving from Italy. According to Gazetta dello Sport, Martin Škrtel will no longer be Atalanta player. In itself, that would not be so odd, if it was not just over three weeks ago that the veteran centre-back joined the Italian club.
It was 9 August when it was announced Škrtel was joining Atalanta, ahead of a historic season, in which they are participating in Champions League for the first time. But just three weeks later, the Slovakian defender is on his way out. Some sources claim the reasons for this are in regards to his physical preparation and that he has been unable to fit properly into Gian Piero Gasperini’s methods.
Di Marzio claimed today that Simon Kjaer is the possibility for swift move, as Atalanta have it by Monday night before the transfer window ends. The 30-year-old Dane also used to play for Fenerbahce and Atalanta are hoping he will bring the necessary experience.
