Some players “need to leave” Arsenal – Emery

Following Arsenal’s 4-1 defeat at the hands of London rivals Chelsea in the Europa League final, manager Unai Emery said some players will have to leave the club.

Former Gunner Olivier Giroud opened the scoring in the 49th minute, Pedro Rodriguez doubled it on the hour mark, and a subsequent brace by Eden Hazard made sure the goal Alex Iwobi scored for Arsenal in between had no importance whatsoever.

It’s fair to say Emery was far from impressed after the final whistle. His team will now miss out on Champions League football for the third year running, but he stressed that the club will continue the development of the players recently added to the team, while some players will need to leave.

Naturally, he didn’t mention any names, adding that the time wasn’t right to talk about the potential departures from the Emirates. Petr Cech has played the last game of his career, Aaron Ramsey has already joined up with Juventus as a free agent, while Danny Welbeck is set to follow the Welshman through the exit door. But apparently, more will go the same way.
