Galatasaray have won the 2007-08 Turkcell Süper Lig, securing the top spot with a 2-0 win over Oftasspor on Saturday.

Veteran striker Hakan Sükür put ‘Gala’ in the lead after 36 minutes, and Balta doubled the advantage just before the half time whistle.

The victory would have been enough to win the championship in any case, but remaining rivals Fenerbahçe made it even easier by losing their match at Trabzonspor 2-0 with goals from Yattara and Bulut.

Sivasspor and Besiktas, who did win their last matches, now share the second place with Fenerbahçe, all at six points from Galatasaray. Fenerbahçe do have a better goal record.

Galatasaray, who won their last championship in 2006, now have seventeen league trophies; the same amount as Fenerbahçe.
