Swedish midfielder Christian Wilhelmsson suffered a tear of his left hamstring during Tuesday’s win over Greece and will miss the rest of Euro 2008 as a result.

With about 12 minutes to play in the match in Salzburg, a 2-0 victory for Sweden, Wilhelmsson limped off the pitch after a clash with Giourkas Seitaridis and scans revealed that he tore the muscle, forcing him out of action for the remainder of the tournament.

Sweden coach Lars Lagerbäck had held out hope that the injury wasn’t as bad as it appeared the way Wilhelmsson limped off the pitch, but the injury was indeed worst-case scenario.

It is unsure how long Wilhelmsson, who plays his club football in France for Nantes, will be out of action altogether.
