Sporting Clube de Portugal have strengthened their squad by signing young defender Marco Torsiglieri from Velez Sarsfield. The transfer fee for the 22 year old was not officially disclosed, but reports in Argentina have it to be somewhere around $4.5m.

Torsiglieri becomes the third new addition to Sporting’s ranks this summer, joining Evaldo and Maniche at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

The Castelar born defender started his career with Velez and spent the 2007/08 season on loan at Talleres de Córdoba. He made around 30 appearances for both outfits in his stay in Argentina.

Torsiglieri can play both in the centre and in the left side on defence. He becomes the second Argentine player on Sporting’s current roster along with Leandro Grimi.
