Tottenham Hotspur wanted Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio

Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, according to Marca , as relayed by Sport Witness. It has been reported by the Spanish news outlet that Premier League club Tottenham and Italian outfit AC Milan were keen on signing Asensio, but the Spain international decided to stay at Madrid as he wants to succeed at the Spanish giants.

Asensio has been at Madrid since 2014 and has won the La Liga twice and the Champions League on two occasions. The winger was on loan at Real Mallorca in 2014-15 and at Espanyol in 2015-16. The 25-year-old has played 25 times for Spain so far in his career, scoring one goal in the process.

The winger is struggling for playing time at the moment under Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotto. Asensio has played just 68 minutes in La Liga and only one minute in the Champions League so far this season.
