Ukraine beat Poland 1-0 in an international friendly on Wednesday, as both sides prepare for the start of their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Ukraine and Poland had met three times before, with the Poles winning twice. The last meeting, in 2001, had a 1-1 draw as result.

The first half in today’s friendly had almost ended when Sergiy Kravchenko but the home side in the lead, and the goal was enough to earn Ukraine their first win over Euro 2012 co-hosts Poland.

Ukraine play their first qualifier with Belarus on September 6th, and Poland host Slovenia for their opener the same day.
