United pull out of race for Cavani

Manchester United are set to withdraw their interest in signing Uruguay international Edinson Cavani, according to the Express.

The 27 year old moved to Paris Saint Germain for £55m just eleven months ago, though he has largely played second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

United, set for a summer of rebuilding after a disappointing 2013/14 campaign, had been linked with a move for the former Napoli man, though his wage demands appear to be a stumbling block.

Cavani is commanding £300k per week – an amount deemed too high by the 2013 Champions, who will now turn their attention elsewhere.

They also look set to miss out on Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, a target from twelve months ago, with the Spain international closing in on a switch to Chelsea.

Louis van Gaal will take his position as new Manchester United manager after guiding the Netherlands in Brazil, and he is priced at 9/2 to win the league in his first season.
