Villa set to move for Bamford if Benteke leaves

The Daily Star understands that Aston Villa will move for Championship Player of the Season Patrick Bamford if Christian Benteke leaves the club this summer.

FA Cup finalists Villa, who remain embroiled in a relegation battle with just four games left to play this season, are likely to receive bids for the Belgium international this summer following his impressive form in recent months.

Since Tim Sherwood arrived at Villa Park in February, Benteke has hit nine league goals, a tally that includes a hat-trick against Queens Park Rangers three weeks ago.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked with a move for the 24 year old and whilst the Midlands outfit will be keen to retain his services, they are keeping a close eye on Bamford, who has been in stunning form on loan at Middlesbrough this season.

The England U21 international, who is still yet to play for parent club Chelsea, has hit nineteen goals for Boro having previously impressed in spells with Derby County and MK Dons.
