Market: Watford win
Odds: 13/8 @ 888sport
In a showdown between two of the Championship’s early-season promotion contenders, Watford will make the trip to Bournemouth on Saturday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, after it was announced earlier in the week that Jonathan Woodgate would be taking permanent charge at the Vitality, it is fair to say that Bournemouth fans were far from convinced by that appointment. While the Cherries might have opened the 2020/21 campaign with an immediate Premier League return at the top of their agenda, the former Middlesbrough boss saw his new squad put in another worrying display in midweek. While January arrival Shane Long might have grabbed Bournemouth another consolation strike on Wednesday night, Woodgate’s side slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Cardiff on home soil. Now reeling from back-to-back losses and with just a single win in their last four Championship matchups, it should also be noted that the Cherries suffered a 3-0 hammering when Watford came to town last season on Premier League duties.
As for the visitors, while Bournemouth might have seen their promotion charge take another dent in midweek, Watford do appear to be enjoying a real boost under new boss Xisco Munoz. Although many might have been shocked to see the Spaniard handed his first major job last year, the Hornets should find the mood in their camp at a real high. Managing to land themselves an action-packed 3-2 victory away at Blackburn on Wednesday, the Yellows have found a route back to third in the table and just their goal difference is keeping them outside the automatic spots. With their recent purple patch highlighted by that stunning 6-0 romp against Bristol City earlier in the month, Watford have won each of their last four Championship contests on the bounce. With the chance to lay down another marker at the Vitality, we’re backing an away victory on Saturday lunchtime.
