West Brom considered Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso

West Bromwich Albion wanted to sign Marcos Alonso from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the January transfer window as a potential replacement for Kieran Gibbs, according to The Athletic. Inter Miami wanted to secure the services of Gibbs in the final week of the window, and West Brom considering Alonso as a replacement.

However, according to the report, what Miami offered to Gibbs and West Brom did not suit either party, and the former Arsenal left-back is still at the Premier League club. The Baggies did not make a move for Alonso in the end, although it would have been difficult to bring him to The Hawthorns as he was back in the starting lineup under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

According to WhoScored, Alonso has made five starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Chelsea so far this season, scoring one goal in the process. During the 2019-20 campaign, the Spain international made 15 starts and three substitute appearances in the league for the Blues, scoring four goals and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
