West Ham still interested in Maxi Gomez

West Ham are still interested in Maxi Gomez! After their £40m bid for Celta Vigo’s striker was turned down in the January transfer window, the London-based club are still not ready to give up on the Uruguayan. To make things better, West Ham could be even in a better position now than couple months ago.

Celta are doing really poorly in LaLiga this season and are currently in a real struggle, fighting to stay in the league. Their battle against the drop could go to the very end of the season, especially if things keep going like this and that could be a positive thing for West Ham.

If Celta go down to Segunda, the release clause of Maxi Gomez would also fall – from  €50m to €25m, to be specific. That would not be a problem in the slightest for West Ham to pay, but they could be competing with Barcelona, if the Spanish champions decide to pursue him. There are rumours that Luis Suarez could be the one persuading him to become his own successor in the role of Barcelona’s first choice striker in years to come.
