Will Wayne Rooney really leave Old Trafford?

England striker Wayne Rooney has always had the world at his feet ever since he scored that famous match winner against Arsenal for Everton at the tender age of 16.

Since then he has gone from strength to strength and last season had his best goalscoring campaign of his career.

Nightmare

Just a few months later and his world seems to have collapsed around him.

Events in his personal life mean he could lose his very loyal wife Coleen. And events off the pitch have led to his manager Sir Alex Ferguson to leave him out of the team.

Ferguson had told the media that Rooney was left out of the team because he was injured but Rooney came out and denied these claims saying he was fit and ready to play. His manager obviously thought he wasn’t mentally fit to start the games.

Dangerous

Rooney did a very dangerous thing by contradicting the United boss in the press. The Scot is like the godfather at Old Trafford. His word is law at United and anybody who dares to question him usually ends up heading through the Old Trafford exit door.

The most famous cases of people crossing Ferguson are probably Paul Ince and David Beckham. Both players were soon out the door after clashes with the Scot. Ferguson also wasn’t scared to get rid of Jaap Stam and Ruud Van Nistelrooy when they were key players because they crossed him. When he is in a battle with a player he tends to win out.

Ferguson’s attitude is that no player is bigger than the club and no player is irreplaceable. That is true but Rooney on his day is one Europe’s top players. Unfortunately for United he hasn’t had many of those days in recent months.

Form

Rooney’s form since the allegations of his personal life came out has been awful. The speculation obviously hasn’t helped his form. Anybody would be distracted by being in every newspaper and everybody speculating about your personal affairs (literally in some cases).

He needs to sort his off the field issues out before he will get back to his best form. Let’s face it nobody can give their full attention to their job if they are facing personal problems.

Speculation

There is now speculation that the 24 year-old could be on the move. It really wouldn’t surprise me if he did move on after all that’s gone on. However it would need to be abroad if he was to avoid the British media.

I believe there is only two clubs on the continent who could afford Rooney and they are both in La Liga. Barcelona and Real Madrid are two of the biggest clubs in the world. They are also able to spend big when they want a particular player.

I just don’t see Wayne Rooney moving to Spain. He would struggle to learn the language and being very close to his family would miss them. There are other options if he did leave United. Like a switch to bitter-rivals Manchester City.

Again I just can’t see him signing for City. I don’t think he would want to be hated by United fans as well as a minority of Everton fans. Rooney is a very passionate guy and he seems to love playing for United. Then again Everton fans thought he loved playing for them. In football you never know what is going to happen.

Destination

I have to admit if Rooney did leave United I wouldn’t like to guest where he would end up. Wherever he ends up I’m sure he would eventually rediscover his form and get back to his best when he sorts his personal problems out.

Will Wayne Rooney leave Manchester United?

I have lost my trust in Rooney, I think he is bound to leave sooner rather than later.

Deals, like the one Rooney signed, mean nothing to superstars like Rooney when a bigger offer comes along.

And, lets be mindful that Rooney wanted to leave because of a lack of investment in game-winning players like Kaka, Ronaldo, Torres, Villa.

Alex is not going to change his buying policy for any player, hence my conclusion that Rooney is bound to leave.

But Wayne Rooney, being Wayne Rooney, will recover, physically, mentally, and whatever else he can recover in, and he shall get back to his peak, and score goals galore once again. . . .

Rooney leave Old T? Main question is who wants him? Nobody will want to buy him at this stage. Injured, mental and physical problems and he will not be in his peak anymore. Mark my words, he will retire in OT, if not send to US….

Succes in top flight these days requires investment in top class players in key departments such as attacking midfield, midfield lock, central defence and forwards.

Yes, SAF is right in advocating for grooming and development of acadamey prodigies but this requires a good injection of just a few top class players (not the whole team like Real Madrid).

Honestly, SAF can’t expect Utd to sustain the success of the ninties without this top class quality injection- it just wont happen. Other clubs have caught up with us i.t.o buying power so we have to adjust accordingly.

    LONG LIVE UTD!

I can imagine Rooney in a Barca shirt vividly, but it doesn’t give me that good time feeling like imagining him staying with United. CFC Fan, you’re right, Wazza wants more players to help him and Berbatov out, and he must not be happy seeing Tevez and Ronaldo wearing the jerseys of rival clubs. SAF is human, like all of us, he’ll make mistakes and he already has. But I am certain he won’t make the mistake of selling Rooney. Rooney wants nothing more than to win, score goals and play alongside really good players, as he knows he can’t do it alone.

Im a huge United Fan.. Rooney leaving is a huge down fall for united. rooney gets paid 90,000 pounds per week. if he goes anywhere else he would be making above 200,00 a week. is he greedy? maybe but most people want to make more money. i believe he said he wants to win more silverware.. wont be able to do so in Manchester because they dont have the squad or talent anymore to do so. Last year was prime example they won the carling cup and community shield if im not mistaken. this year no league with teams like manchester city and Chelsea around. Champions league doubt it cuz they barely surviving in group stages (i know there 1st).
if they do sell him for hopefully at least 50 million euros or pounds they should buy players that are world class to keep the competitiveness and help united! but i hope he doesnt leave!

After the departures of Tevez, Ronaldo and Pique united dont have the players to compete in europe. rooney carried the team last year and coming 1 point behind League champions Chelsea.

Well, after reading article after article after article…it seems Wazza wants Man U to blow up in the transfer market…I mean ‘go all out’ and sign some stars!

Fergie never wanted to get in to the transfer market too much b/c he says the market, and players, are over-valued. Makes perfect sense to me…why spend 30mill, when it might cost you only 15 or 20 if you wait a year or two for things to calm down?

But we all know Rooney and he doesn’t settle for anything besides winning…if you asked him, he’d probably buy a player or two himself for the team if he could.

I don’t know how this will work out, and I hate to get your hopes up Man U fans, but if Fergie can overlook his logic, and just spend all that daaam wasteful GLAZER MONEY, I think Rooney will stick around and come back even better than before…he’s in a slump, he’s frustrated and he wants more support from his squad to create some magic…I mean, the guy must be like ‘WTF’ after seeing CR and Tevez go… Man U’s offence was the deadliest in the game at that time…I won’t even deny it – it was something special and CR was wrong to leave it behind, but it is what it is…

Anyway, It’s time for the Glazers to really put their money where their mouth is…you want England’s pride to remain with your club? You know what you have to do…

@Kids Soccer, technically both Liverpool and United are the real Reds, the only difference is that United have Red Devils, and Liverpool are just Reds.
@CFC Fan and The Real Deal, thanks. Only a immature person would really go off on someone for being “immature”, though now I think of it, maybe I was premature, I didn’t even read the first two sentences of the article. I’m passionate about the Devils, yes, don’t want to see Wazza go, check. For now, I’ll shut it and just hope United will find a way to keep our “Demon star”, as one of my coaches calls him (lol). If we do keep him, we’ll have to start small, give him time to recuperate by coming on late as a sub, then after awhile, put him back as a starter. . . “Rooney, the adopted Mancunian, never absent from the limelight for long.”

@Brad, Fergie has been claiming for the last couple of weeks that Rooney has an ankle injury and isnt fully fit, hence why he didnt start at the weekend and wont against Bursaspor. I believe a lot of the problem right now is Mr Paul Stretford (the agent) looking for a big fat paycheck from a transfer. I dont see the player leaving anytime soon, where would he go? City is out of the question because Fergie would have the call on that and if you look back at Heinze potentially leaving for Liverpool you’ll see he wont let any player leave for a close rival much less a player like Rooney.

@the real deal, yes it’s worrying, I won’t deny that. Even the press here in the US have caught on and are seeming interested in it: it was on Sportsnation just an hour ago. . . . Fergie has claimed that Wazza is “injured”. I don’t see how physically, though players can suffer long term affects from an injury, so maybe he’s injured “mentally”, that could be what Fergie meant. . .
Rooney has been adamant about it. . . but SAF, and United, will know better and will soon start fielding him when the Boss believes he’s mentally fit as well as physically, and it won’t be long afterwards before Wazza gets back to last seasons form.

No. He’ll ride this out, and before the season’s over, he’ll find his form back and then some. He’s not signing for Madrid, Barca, or City (he wouldn’t get any playing time, he’d be just like Beckham, nothing more than a brand to sell) and he won’t go anywhere else. Maybe a spell on loan in MLS might help him find that form back. . . no seriously, not joking. But only a loan, not a complete transfer. TO ANYONE. He’s staying.
