Williams set to leave Swansea

Wales captain Ashley Williams is set to leave Swansea City this summer after talks over a new deal at South Coast club broke down, the Mail Online understands.

The 29 year old still has one year remaining on his current contract, though the Swans are likely to reluctantly cash in this summer with Arsenal one of a number of clubs waiting in the wings.

Williams was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium last summer, though his £10m price tag proved to be a stumbling block.

The centre-back moved to Swansea from Stockport County in 2008, having initially signed on loan, and he has made two-hundred and seventy-three appearances for the club in total, scoring twelve goals.

He was part of the squad that won promotion to the Premier League in 2011, and also lifted the League Cup in 2013 after helping his side beat Bradford City 5-0 in the final at Wembley.
