Former Newcastle United star Siem de Jong has officially moved to Sydney FC on loan from Dutch giants Ajax. The 29-year-old has been linked with a move away from Ajax, although many were expecting him to go elsewhere around Europe as opposed to Australia. de Jong has bounced around a series of clubs over the course of the last few years, and now, the former Netherlands international will follow the money by going down under.

Of course, he may just be interested in building the reputation of the A-League down there, but there also tends to be a notable financial incentive when it comes to these kinds of moves. That’s also the case over in China and the United States, and while many fans may choose to hate on that, the growth of these leagues around the world will eventually provide more options for footballers to shine and showcase their talents to the world.
