Aston Villa booked their place in the first round of the UEFA Cup when they drew with FH Hafnarfjordur at Villa Park tonight.

The match ended 1 – 1 but after their away victory of 4 – 1, the Villans are comfortably through to the next round.

Craig Gardner was the first player to find his name written down on the scoresheet. Aston Villa’s lead was short – lived. It took twenty six minutes before the opening goal was scored and only a further two minutes before Atli Bjornsson equalised.

Despite the rather inept performance Aston VillaÂ’s boss Martin OÂ’Neill expressed his satisfaction at having advanced through to the UEFA Cup proper.
