Barca join race for Fabio Coentrao

Barcelona are keeping tabs on Benfica left-back Fabio Coentrao, according to reports from Portugal.

The Catalans will send a scout to watch Coentrao when Benfica host Olhanense on Friday with a view to making a bid for the player in January.

The Portugal international was recommended to Txiki Begiristain by well-known agent Jorge Mendes and Barca have thus joined the pool of interested clubs that also includes Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City among others.

Pep Guardiola is not too happy with his left-back options, seeing that Maxwell and Abidal are the only two players capable of covering that position, so he is likely to consider making a bid for Coentrao in January.
