Competition: National League

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 3/5 @ BetUS

Looking to extend on their National League romp on Tuesday night, Chesterfield will travel to the Spotland Stadium when they meet Rochdale.

Starting with the hosts, while Rochdale might have endeared a fourth-tier nightmare last season as they lost their Football League status, Jimmy McNulty’s side are seeking an immediate return this time around. Last seen over the weekend mounting a stunning last-gasp comeback away at Dorking as they eventually snatched a thrilling 2-1 victory, the Manchester-based outfit already find themselves scrapping it out in the play-off hunt. Although the Blues might still be seeking some much-needed stability at the back as they have recorded just a single clean sheet from their previous seven appearances, the Dale should find the mood in their camp at a recent high. In fact, landing an action-packed 4-2 win at home against a high-flying Barnet earlier in the month, Tuesday’s hosts have suffered just a single defeat from their last eight outings – a run that stems back to a 3-2 loss at the hands of Woking on August 15th. Gaining a reputation for their lively outcomes, it should be noted that McNulty’s side have seen six of their previous seven showdowns finish with both teams getting on the scoresheet.

As for the visitors, while Chesterfield might have missed out on the chance to claim an automatic League Two return last season, the Spireites have come flying out of the traps this time around. Last seen over the weekend putting in another action-packed performance on home soil as they claimed a 3-2 win against Wealdstone, Paul Cook’s men open Tuesday’s fixtures holding a commanding five-point buffer at the top of the table. Rightfully tipped as a leading promotion contender this season, the one-time Wigan boss will be calling on his high-flying squad to lay down another National League marker here. In fact, along with landing another 3-2 win against Halifax last week, Chesterfield have won each of their previous six fifth-tier showdowns. With that run highlighted by a 4-3 win away at Aldershot on September 2nd, Cook’s side have notched a stellar 17 strikes on their six-match winning flurry. Likewise, it should also be noted, the Derbyshire-based outfit have won four of their opening five National League contests away from the SMH Group Stadium.
