Villarreal and Celta de Vigo will lock horns with each other in La Liga this weekend. The match between Marcelino’s side and Claudio Giraldez’s team will be held at Estadio de la Ceramica and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Sunday.

Villarreal

Villarreal are one of the most well-known Spanish clubs and have done well in Europe in their history and regularly challenge for the Champions League places in the La Liga table. The Yellow Submarine finished eighth in the standings in the 2023-24 season and ended up fifth in the league table in the 2024-25 campaign.

Marcelino’s side are on course to having an even campaign in 2025-26. With just six more rounds of matches left in La Liga this season, Villarreal find themselves third with 62 points from 32 matches. Not only are Villarreal set to finish in the Champions League places, but they could end up above Atletico Madrid in the standings.

Villarreal will head into the La Liga match against Celta de Vigo this weekend on the back of a 1-1 draw with Real Oviedo away from home in the league. It came after a 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao on the road in La Liga, which followed a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Girona away from home in the league.

Team News:

Villarreal are likely to line up in a 4-4-2 formation against Celta de Vigo. Arnau Tenas will be in goal for the Yellow Submarine and will have Santiago Mourino, Pau Navarro, Renato Veiga and Sergi Cardona in front of him in defence. Tajon Buchanan, Pape Gueye, Dani Parejo and Alfonso Gonzalez will be the four midfielders. Nicolas Pepe and Tani Oluwaseyi will be the two centre-forwards.

Celta de Vigo

Celta de Vigo are a major club in Spain and an established team in La Liga. Although they do not tend to challenge for the European places in the La Liga table, they do not end up among the sides fighting for survival in the top flight of Spanish football.

Los Celestes finished seventh in the La Liga table last season and were playing in the UEFA Europa League this campaign. Claudio Giraldez’s side are doing well in the league, too. Celta are currently seventh in La Liga with 44 points from 32 games, level on points with sixth-placed Getafe and only five points off fifth-placed Real Betis.

Celta will head into the La Liga game against Villarreal on Sunday on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Barcelona away from home at Camp Nou in the league. It came after a 3-1 defeat to SC Freiburg at home in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie, which followed a 3-0 defeat to Real Oviedo in front of their fans in La Liga.

Team News:

Celta de Vigo are likely to line up in a 3-4-3 formation against Villarreal. Andrei Radu will be in goal and will have Javi Rodriguez, Yoel Lago and Marcos Alonso in front of him in defence. Fernando Lopez and Ilaix Moriba will be the two holding midfielders. Javi Rueda and Sergio Carreira will be deployed on the flanks, with Ferran Jutgla, Pablo Duran and Hugo Alvarez the three forwards.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Villarreal have won 3 of their last 6 La Liga matches.
  • Villarreal have lost 8 of their 32 La Liga matches this season.
  • Villarreal have scored 57 goals and conceded 37 goals in 32 La Liga matches this season.
  • Celta de Vigo have lost 4 of their last 6 La Liga games.
  • Celta de Vigo have won 11 and lost 10 of their 32 La Liga games this campaign.

Conclusion

While Celta de Vigo have done well this season, they are in a wretched run of form. Villarreal have the better team, are at home and are also in better form. It is hard to see anything but a comfortable win for the Yellow Submarine.

Prediction: Villarreal to win 2-0

Best Odds: 9/1
