De Jong undergoes Newcastle medical

Borussia Monchengladbach striker Luuk de Jong is set to undergo a medical at Newcastle, BBC quoted the German club as saying.

With Papiss Demba Cisse heavily linked with a January exit, the Magpies were looking to reinforce the attacking department and they appear to have agreed a deal for the Dutch striker.

Newcastle look set to stay without star midfielder Yohan Cabaye, having reportedly accepted a bid from Paris Saint-Germain for his services, and they look set to use some of the cash from the sale to complete the signing of De Jong.

The 23-year-old joined die Fohlen from Twente in the summer of 2012 and despite showing some promise in his first season at the club, he has largely struggled for playing time this term.

De Jong hasn’t made a single start in German Bundesliga this season and in turn expressed his desire to leave the club in search of first team football.

His next employers Newcastle are doing pretty well this season and are available at 12/1 to achieve a top 6 finish in the Premiership.
