AZ Alkmaar’s Eredivisie title aspirations were dealt another blow with a 3-2 loss to PSV Eindhoven on Saturday.

Tim Matavz’s late winner at Philips Stadion kept PSV’s slim chances of catching Ajax Amsterdam alive.

The win helped PSV into fifth, four points behind Ajax, while Gertjan Verbeek’s AZ are winless in three league matches.

AZ are three points behind Ajax, but Frank De Boer’s team can extend their advantage at the top when they host De Graafschap on Sunday.

Jozy Altidore had cancelled out Jeremain Lens’ 17th-minute opener for PSV, before Roy Beerens gave AZ the lead just after the half-hour.

Lens netted the equaliser before providing the assist for the winner, with Matavz turning the ball in after goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado flapped at a cross from the attacker.

Feyenoord moved level on points with AZ after their 3-0 win over strugglers Excelsior in Rotterdam.

Prolific striker John Guidetti, on-loan from Manchester City, opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Jordy Clasie and Jerson Cabral struck after the interval.

Twente were only able to secure a 2-2 draw at home to NAC Breda, as their chances of claiming the title also suffered a blow.

Luuk de Jong’s brace just after the hour-mark helped the hosts into the lead after Alex Schalk’s 56th-minute opener.

But Nourdin Boukhari scored an equaliser in the third minute of additional time as fourth-placed Twente missed their chance to move into second.

A Bas Dost hat-trick saw Heerenveen to a come-from-behind 4-2 win at NEC Nijmegen.

NEC forward Genero Zeefuik struck a brace in the first half before Dost netted in the 66th, 71st and 80th minutes at Stadion de Goffert.

Oussama Assaidi completed the scoring in stoppage time.
