Everton readying move for Vlaar

The Mail Online understands that Everton are set to offer a contract to Ron Vlaar, if the former Aston Villa man can prove his fitness.

The thirty year old left Villa at the end of last season when his contract expired and is still searching for a new club.

A proposed move to Lazio was held up due to the defender having surgery on his knee, and the Toffees want to be sure of his fitness before they draw up a deal.

He has been working on his condition by training with AZ Alkmaar, the club where he began his career.

After leaving AZ half way through the 2005/06 campaign, Vlaar spent six-and-a-half years at Feyenord before moving to Villa Park.

In three seasons with the Midlands club, the Netherlands international played eighty-six times in al competitions, scoring twice while he also has thirty-one caps for his country – seven of which were won at last summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
