Dirk Kuyt opened the scoring, Robbie Keane scored his first Liverpool goal and Steven Gerrard scored his 100th career goal for the club before Danny Koevermans scored a consolation as Liverpool beat PSV Eindhoven 3-1 here on Wednesday in their Champions League clash.

Kuyt has not scored in the Premier League since last November but his fifth minute strike paved the way for Liverpool's win.

But the biggest cheer of the night came when Keane broke his duck in his 11th game since joining in a 20.3 million pounds transfer from Tottenham in the summer.

And after a flat second period, Gerrard rifled in a third for Liverpool before Koevermans grabbed one back for the visitors.

But the picture looks bleak for PSV, who have no points from their opening two Champions League group games, while Liverpool are sitting comfortably on a maximum of six points.

PSV were trying to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the opening round of games but could not have wished for a worse start at Anfield.

They had barely set foot in Liverpool's half when they fell behind through Kuyt with just four minutes gone.

Andreas Isaksson managed to block Fernando Torres' stab at goal from Gerrard's corner but Kuyt's follow up had too much on it for the former Manchester City goalkeeper.

The early goal took all of the life out of the game but Liverpool were unfortunate not to be given a penalty when Keane looked to have been caught by Carlos Salcido in the penalty area with just under 20 minutes gone.

Shortly after, Nordin Amrabat had PSV's first effort on goal with a strike from 30 yards that flew over Pepe Reina's goal.

But in the 34th minute, Keane got the first chance for his famous goal celebration in Liverpool colours when he beat Dirk Marcellis to stab Torres' cross into the corner of the net.

The Dutch side persisted with Amrabat on his own in attack and the lone striker started the second period with a jinking run and a long-range effort that flew wide off Martin Skrtel.

Liverpool were able to be far more patient in their build-up and Torres just lost his footing when Gerrard played the Spanish striker into the box.

Amrabat also gave Liverpool a scare when another drive from 25 yards narrowly missed the post just before the hour. But at the other end, Keane was off-balance and glanced Fabio Aurelio's free-kick wide of goal.

And midway through the second half, Torres should have scored a third when he collected a poor back-pass from former Liverpool defender Jan Kromkamp but sliced wide when he was clean through.

In a rare PSV attack, Eidison Mendez had an effort blocked after he had surged on to Amrabat's pass. But with just under a quarter of an hour left Aurelio touched a free-kick to Gerrard and the Liverpool skipper crashed in a low drive from 30 yards.

Two minutes later, PSV pulled one back when Koevermans clipped in a smart finish from fellow substitute Balazs Dzsubzsak's cross from the right.

Substitute Lucas Leiva came close to adding a fourth and Liverpool played out a comfortable victory to take another major step towards the knock-out phase.
