Liverpool lead chase for Inter captain

Premier League giants Liverpool are in pole position to sign Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, Sport Mediaset can reveal.

The Nerazzurri captain has decided to leave Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in January and it is unlikely that the club will stand in his way.

It is believed that local rivals Lazio and AS Roma are showing interest in his services, but Sport Mediaset claims that Liverpool lead the chase.

The Reds have long been following Ranocchia’s performances and new manager Jurgen Klopp agrees that the Italy international could be a useful addition to the squad.

The 27-year-old has spent his entire career in Italy, representing Arezzo, Bari, Genoa and Inter, amassing a total of 157 Serie A appearances in the process.

He has lost his place in the side under Roberto Mancini and has yet to start a Serie A game this term, having only made five substitute appearances in the league.
