Boavista, who were kicked out of Portugal’s top flight after a match-fixing scandal, had their stadium seized by fiscal authorities on Friday, as the club sank deeper into financial crisis.

The stadium, which holds 30,000 spectators, is to go on sale for a starting price of around 28.3 millions euros (42.5 million dollars), a government source said Friday.

The club were relegated to the second division in May after a corruption scandal — where it was alleged they had pressured referees into influencing matches — that also implicated champions Porto.

Boavista’s board recently resigned after the club narrowly avoided a players’ strike over unpaid salaries stretching back months.

Their problems were compounded earlier in the year when a 14.5 million-euros (21.8 million-dollars) investment plan fell through after the businessman behind it was questioned by police for alleged possession of false documents.
