Prediction: Chelsea to win 2-0
Best Odds: 8/1
Crystal Palace and Chelsea will lock horns with each other in the Premier League this weekend. The London derby between the Eagles and the Blues will be held at Selhurst Park and is scheduled to kick off at 2pm UK time on Sunday.
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace won the FA Cup last season under manager Oliver Glasner and were expected to kick on in the 2025-25 campaign. While the Eagles were not going to challenge for the Premier League top four, many thought that they would finish in the top 10 comfortably.
However, Palace have been underwhelming so far this season. The London club are 13th in the Premier League table at the moment with 28 points from 22 matches, eight points off the UEFA Champions League places and 11 points above the bottom three.
Palace will head into the London derby against Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Sunday on the back of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sunderland away from home at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League. It came after a shock 2-1 defeat to Macclesfield FC away from home in the FA Cup, which followed a goalless draw with Aston Villa in London in the Premier League.
Team News:
Crystal Palace are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation against Chelsea. Dean Henderson will be in goal for Oliver Glasner’s side and will have Chris Richards, Maxence Lacroix and Jefferson Lerma in front of him in defence. Justin Devenny, Adam Wharton, Will Hughes and Tyrick Mitchell will be the four midfielders. Brennan Johnson and Yeremy Pino will be the two attacking midfielders. Jean-Philippe Mateta will lead the line for Palace.
Chelsea
Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have been hugely successful over the past two or so decades. The Blues have won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League over the years, and clinched the UEFA Conference League last season and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the summer of 2025.
The Blues finished in the Champions League places in the Premier League table last season and will fancy their chances of doing the same this time around. Chelsea are currently sixth in the standings with 34 points from 22 matches, just two points off the final UEFA Champions League place. Liam Rosenior is now in charge of Chelsea, who parted company with Enzo Maresca earlier this month.
Chelsea will take on Pafos at Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening before facing Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the London derby on Sunday. Liam Rosenior’s side beat Brentford 2-0 at home in the London derby last week, which came after a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final tie.
Team News:
Chelsea are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Crystal Palace. Robert Sanchez will be in goal and will have Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo and Marc Cucurella in front of him in defence. Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez will be the two holding midfielders. Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer and Alejandro Garnacho will be deployed in attacking midfield. Joao Pedro will lead the line for the Blues.
Key Factors to Consider
- Crystal Palace have not won any of their last 6 Premier League matches.
- Crystal Palace have scored 23 goals and conceded 25 goals in 22 Premier League matches so far this season.
- Crystal Palace have won 7 of their 22 Premier League matches so far this season.
- Chelsea have won 1 of their last 6 Premier League matches.
- Chelsea have scored 36 goals and conceded 24 goals in 22 Premier League matches so far this season.
Conclusion
Neither Crystal Palace nor Chelsea are in good form at the moment, but the Blues have a better team and should be able to pick up all three points from the London derby.
