The Netherlands extended their Group 9 lead with a rather uncomplicated 2-0 win over Iceland.

The Dutch were dominant throughout the entire match, and defender Joris Matthijsen slid in a Van der Vaart cross after fifteen minutes.

The second goal came six minutes after the hour mark. Van der Vaart now found Klaas Jan Huntelaar, whose strike went in at the far post.

Edwin van der Sar, who made a temporary comeback to replace the injured Maarten Stekelenburg, was never troubled in goal.

Bert van Marwijk’s men lead the group with six points from two games. Scotland are second with four points from three matches.
