Jose Peseiro, sacked by Rapid Bucharest after last week’s UEFA Cup knock-out, was on Wednesday granted a reprieve and given his old job back, local media reported.

The Portuguese coach was fired by club president Fathi Taher after Rapid’s 1-1 draw with German side Wolfsburg which spelled the end of their UEFA Cup campaign.

According to sources Rapid were forced into offering Peseiro a second chance after a number of coaches refused the chance to succeed him.

Peseiro joined Rapid on a three year contract this season.
