United given boost in Gotze pursuit

The Metro understands that Manchester United have been given a boost in their hopes to sign Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze after the German champions suggested that the midfielder’s future could be away from the Allianz Arena.

The 23 year old moved to Bayern from rivals Borussia Dortmund two summers ago, but he has won back to back league titles under Pep Guardiola, to add to the two he won with Dortmund, where he began his career.

Since arriving in Munich, he has racked up ninety-two appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring thirty goals.

Internationally, he has fourteen goals in forty-four caps for Germany with the most famous of those strikes coming in extra time of last summer’s World Cup final in Brazil, where his side beat Argentina 1-0.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also monitoring the situation, with Gotze’s current contract set to expire at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.
