Japanese J-League club Urawa Red Diamonds have completed the signing of Burkinabe forward Wilfried Sanou on loan from Bundesliga outfit FC Cologne. Sanou is the second African player to join the current Red Diamonds lineup after Ghanian striker Faisal Mohammed.

Sanou started his career with SC Freiburg and spent five years with the club before transferring to Cologne in 2008.  The move reunites Sanou with current Red Diamonds boss Volker Finke, who was his manager at Cologne between 2003 and 2007. Finke put in his papers in May 2007 after sixteen years in charge of the club.

Sanou is the Red Diamonds’ second loan signing from the Bundesliga in the winter market. Earlier this  month, they loaned Australian defender Matthew Špiranović from Nuremberg till the end of 2010. Urawa finished sixth in the 2009 J-League.
