Watford offer Neill short-term deal

Australia international Lucas Neill has made a surprise return to England, joining up with Championship side Watford for the remainder of the season, according to Sky Sports.

The 35 year old was brought in by Hornets manager Giueseppe Sannino on a short-term basis after impressing in a week’s training with the club.

The defender has been a free agent since leaving Japanese club Omiya Ardija in December, and despite being linked with a move to his home country with Sydney Olympic, has opted to return to the country where has he spent the majority of his playing career.

He signed for Millwall, who gave him his professional debut in 1996 before moving on to have spells with Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United and Everton.

Over the past four years Neill, who is hoping to be selected for this summer’s World Cup finals, has turned out for clubs in Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Australia before moving to Japan during the summer.
