Zenit make a move on Garay

Portuguese daily newspaper Record understands that Zenit have launched a fresh assault on Benfica hotshot Ezequiel Garay.

Russian clubs have until 27th February to sign new players and the club from St Petersburg have only started making their moves in the market.

After completing a deal for Venezuelan striker Jose Salomon Rondon, Zenit plan to add Benfica’s Ezequiel Garay to their ranks as well.

Boss Luciano Spalletti is a big fan of the player and he is prepared to double his current wage to persuade him to join his charges.

Zenit also need to find an agreement with Benfica and they are set to return with a new offer after having the initial bid rejected by the Portuguese club.

With Real Madrid entitled to 50% of the future transfer fee, the Eagles will be looking to sell at top price.

Benfica remained at the top of the league standings despite sharing spoils with Gil Vicente and they are 5/6 favourites to lift the coveted title.
