Celtic clinched their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title with a commanding 5-0 away victory over Dundee United on Saturday.

Brendan Rodgers’ side needed only a point to confirm top spot in the first game after the league split, with Nicolas Kuhn and substitute Adam Idah both scoring twice in their stunning victory.

United had a couple of half-chances early on before Celtic took control and found their breakthrough half an hour in.

Arne Engels curled a corner into the far post, and Jota’s pressure on Ryan Strain saw the defender divert Liam Scales’ nod down into his own net.

Just eight minutes later, Kuhn got his first of the game, finishing off a lightning-quick counter-attack by volleying Daizen Maeda’s cross into the roof of the net.

His second came in first-half stoppage time. Maeda fizzed a low cross in from the left this time, and Kuhn was unmarked on the penalty spot to guide it past the wrong-footed Jack Walton.

Even with a three-goal advantage, Celtic went straight on the attack in the second half, netting their fourth just two minutes after the restart. Idah, a first-half replacement for Jota, was unmarked to nod in Alistair Johnston’s byline cross.

Idah then rounded off the visitors’ five-star performance 11 minutes later; while off-balance, he latched onto Callum McGregor’s reverse pass to slot a low shot into the bottom-left corner.

Kasper Schmeichel was forced into action to protect his clean sheet late on. Kristijan Trapanovski raced in behind Celtic’s defence, but in a one-on-one situation, the goalkeeper stretched to push his strike away.

Data Debrief: Lucky number 13

Celtic’s latest title has been coming for a long time, with this win moving them 18 points clear of rivals Rangers, who only have five matches left to play.

They have been crowned the Scottish champions for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons, failing to lift the trophy only in 2020-21 in this period.

Given their recent dominance over Dundee United, this result will not come as a surprise. Celtic have now gone unbeaten in 23 straight matches against them in all competitions (W18 D5), a run spanning over 10 years.
