Hector Bellerin scored a 94th-minute equaliser as Real Betis held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw, with Barcelona now on the cusp of retaining their LaLiga title.

Vinicius Junior put Los Blancos ahead at Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla, but Bellerin struck in the dying seconds which could allow Barcelona to move 11 points clear with a win over Getafe on Saturday.

After Kylian Mbappe, who was making his 100th appearance for Madrid, volleyed wide, Vinicius opened the scoring in the 17th minute as he reacted quickest to a rebound from Federico Valverde’s powerful strike.

Betis piled the pressure on before half-time, but Madrid goalkeeper Andrii Lunin first tipped an effort from Antony around the post before denying the Brazilian and Cedric Bakambu with a double save, while Pablo Fornals shot over the bar.

Mbappe saw a goal ruled out for offside against Trent Alexander-Arnold early in the second half, while Alvaro Valles kept out Eduardo Camavinga in stoppage time as Madrid looked to put the game to bed.

However, Alvaro Arbeloa’s side were left to rue those missed chances as Bellerin’s deflected effort found its way past Lunin, though Madrid were unhappy as they felt Ferland Mendy was fouled in the build-up.

Data Debrief: Madrid falter at the back again

The expected goals (xG) battle suggests it was a fair result, with Betis accumulating 1.08 from 19 attempts to Madrid’s 1.09 from 12 shots, though Valles’ seven saves proved crucial for the hosts.

Betis have now won 15 points from losing positions in LaLiga this season. Only Barcelona (21) have recovered more from such positions in 2025-26.

Madrid, meanwhile, have conceded at least one goal in their last 10 LaLiga matches (13 goals), their worst run without keeping a clean sheet in a single season of the competition since May 2004 under Carlos Queiroz (20 matches, 36 goals).
