Luis Enrique: PSG still seeing the ´best version´ of Dembele

Luis Enrique says Paris Saint-Germain are still getting the best out of Ousmane Dembele, despite his time being managed this season.

Dembele is PSG’s joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 this season, netting 10 goals, while he also sits second on the assist charts with six, behind Vitinha (seven).

That is despite him starting just nine of his 19 appearances in the French top-flight this term, while his 930 minutes is also one of the lower tallies in the squad.

But with PSG preparing for a busy week in which they travel to Angers in Ligue 1 and then Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Luis Enrique remains thrilled with Dembele’s impact.

“For us, he is very important; he is the Ballon d’Or winner, a leader in both attacking and defensive work,” he said of Dembele.

“We have managed this season very well, with Ousmane and his feel for the game. We are still seeing the best version of Dembele.”

PSG currently sit top of Ligue 1, with a four-point cushion over Lens, whom they still have to face after their meeting was postponed.

Angers, meanwhile, sit 13th in the table despite a recent five-game winless streak, though they came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Le Havre last time out.

Alexandre Dujeux’s side face a tough test if they want to get back to winning ways, though, with PSG looking extremely strong in defence, with four straight clean sheets in all competitions.

And Luis Enrique highlighted that as a key part of their recent form as he seeks ways to continue improving his team.

“Regarding clean sheets, we did what we always do,” he added. “We’re always looking to improve.

“When we score four or five goals, we feel like we’ve done something different. The stats have shown our level throughout the season. It was very high.

“It’s an obsession for us; I love playing good football, but you have to know how to defend to do that, press a lot while trying to win the ball back.

“We have to be courageous and ambitious. Playing good football is a prerequisite for playing in our team.”
