On a Sunday that also sees both Newcastle and Liverpool make their respective returns to Premier League duties, we have taken a glance at some of the most intriguing betting markets that are available.

Sunday, October 8th

14:00 West Ham vs Newcastle

Putting in a famous Champions League performance earlier in the week as they claimed a stunning 4-1 romp against French giants PSG, Newcastle find the mood in their camp at an iconic high. Unbeaten in each of their opening two European appearances and riding a major wave of momentum, Eddie Howe’s side will now have their sights set on laying down another marker here.

Making even more history out on September 24th as they landed an 8-0 victory away at Premier League returners Sheffield United, Sunday’s guests have now won each of their previous four appearances across all competitions.

With their sights set on making up some ground in the top-four chase this weekend, the former Bournemouth boss has seen his high-flying squad gain a reputation for their clinical performances in the final third.

In fact, along with hitting PSG for four at St. James’ Park in midweek, Newcastle have won each of their last four straight showdowns by an aggregate score of 15-1.

On the flip side, putting in their own eye-catching European display on Thursday evening as they claimed a 2-1 victory away at German outfit Freiburg, West Ham have certainly gained a string of plaudits since opening up the 2023/24 campaign.

Making real history last season as they were crowned Europa Conference League champions, David Moyes’ men have lost just a pair of their opening 10 appearances across all competitions.

Looking to mount another genuine top-six charge this time around, the former Manchester United boss has also seen his side continue to shine at the London Stadium.

Including a 3-1 victory against Chelsea back on August 20th, the Hammers have won three of their first four contests in front of their own supporters.

Two sides who find the moods in their respective camps at a real high, neutrals could be treated to an enjoyable affair in east London.

14:00 Brighton vs Liverpool

At the heart of a major controversy last weekend as they suffered a 2-1 loss away at Tottenham, Liverpool would have simply been excited to claim an immediate European response on Thursday night. Claiming a deserved 2-0 win against Royale Union, Jurgen Klopp’s side will feel that they have another point to prove here.

Nevertheless, despite still rightfully being frustrated by last weekend’s scenes in north London, the former Borussia Dortmund boss has seen his side impress since opening up the 2023/24 campaign.

Despite eventually missing out on the chance to claim another top-four ticket last season, the Reds have won eight of their previous nine appearances across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to the opening weekend.

Extending on their EFL Cup adventure on September 27th as they landed a 3-1 win against Championship outfit Leicester, Klopp’s side could be smelling a potential chance here.

While Brighton have mounted a Europa League comeback away at Marseille earlier in the week, Sunday’s hosts have shown some extended issues since returning from September’s international break.

Last seen in Premier League action getting hit with a woeful 6-1 drumming at the hands of Aston Villa, Roberto De Zerbi’s side have claimed just a single win from any of their previous five appearances.

Getting their European campaign underway with a 3-2 defeat against AEK last month, Brighton have quickly gained a reputation for their worrying defensive issues.

Clinching back-to-back Champions League victories as they landed a 3-1 win against RB Leipzig, the Sky Blues will be looking to make a heavyweight statement in the capital.

Still holding a one-point buffer over the chasing pack and winning six of their opening seven Premier League showdowns, Pep Guardiola’s side find themselves tipped as a leading contender to make more history this time around.

Becoming the first English club since 1999 to be crowned treble champions last season, the Sky Blues will now be hoping to find some recent defensive stability.

Including that shock 2-1 defeat against Wolves last weekend, City have recorded just a single clean sheet from their previous eight appearances across all competitions.

On the flip side, suffering a downbeat Champions League collapse on foreign soil in midweek as they eventually slumped to a 2-1 loss against Lens, Arsenal will be more than aware that they have their sights set on mounting another title charge this season.

Nevertheless, while the Gunners might not have suffered a single Premier League defeat from their opening seven top-flight contests, Mikel Arteta’s young squad certainly face a real challenge here.

Despite lifting this year’s Community Shield back on August 6th as they claimed a penalties victory against the Sky Blues at Wembley, Arsenal should be worried by a nightmare Premier League record against the defending champions.

In fact, including a 4-1 drumming at the Emirates six months ago, Sunday’s hosts have lost each of their last 10 straight top-flight meetings against City – a run that stems all the way back to April 2017.
