Women´s Super League: Chelsea´s record-breaking unbeaten streak ends as Man City extend lead at summ

Manchester City moved six points clear at the Women’s Super League summit, as a 3-0 victory over Leicester City was coupled with Chelsea’s first league defeat since May 2024.

Andree Jeglertz’s side extended their advantage at the top of the table, after second-place Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by Everton.

It took until the 74th minute for Man City to break through at the King Power Stadium, with Khadija Shaw pouncing on Celeste Boureille’s loose clearance before finishing.

Shaw doubled the lead when she headed home Lauren Hemp’s cross nine minutes later, before she turned provider for substitute Kerolin to add a third goal in stoppage time.

Later on Sunday, Chelsea missed the chance to close the gap to three points once more, as they suffered their first WSL defeat under Sonia Bompastor.

Honoka Hayashi scored what proved to be the winner for Everton in the 12th minute at Kingsmeadow, when she turned home Toni Payne’s cross.

The Blues threatened late on with a deflected Sandy Baltimore corner ricocheting against the post, while Wieke Kaptein headed against the crossbar as the visitors held out for victory.

Data Debrief: Blues’ record-breaking run screeches to a halt

Chelsea suffered their first WSL defeat in 35 matches, and have failed to win three straight league games for the first time since opening the 2018-19 season with three successive draws.

Everton ended a run of eight straight league away defeats against the Blues, as well as an eight-game winless streak in the competition.

Meanwhile, Man City became the first team in WSL history to win eight successive meetings to nil against the same opposition.

The Citizens are also the third team to win nine of their opening 10 matches in a WSL season, after Arsenal (2018-19 and 2019-20) and Chelsea (2022-23 and 2024-25).
